Presidential Power Grab

New Power: Suspension of Directors

The President may immediately suspend or restrict a Board member’s duties if the President determines there is credible evidence of:

  • misconduct
  • malfeasance
  • conduct detrimental to the Union
  • abandonment of responsibilities

…before the disciplinary process is completed.

Current System

The current complaint and discipline system relies on hearings, investigations, committees, appeals, and Board review.

Why this is controversial

Critics will argue:

  • “credible evidence” is subjective
  • suspension occurs before findings
  • a President could sideline political opponents

Supporters will argue immediate action is sometimes needed, but from a governance standpoint, this is a substantial increase in presidential authority.

Instead, we must demand the reinstatement of the regular Board Meeting schedule (as currently mandated) to create the opportunities for genuine democratic oversight that those pushing for Bylaw changes claim to seek.
